Sex, Drugs & Rock ‘n’ Chips
October 6th, 2009
Nicholas Lyndhurst just can’t shake that Rodney Trotter name tag. He’ll be playing, not Rodney, but Rodney’s father in a prequel to Only Fools & Horses, set for broadcast on BBC One next year. The comedy Sex, Drugs & Rock ‘n’ Chips will focus on the early years of the Trotters during the 1960s. The Inbetweeners’ James Buckley will play a teenage wheelin’ and dealin’ Del Boy, whilst Lyndhurst plays Freddie ‘The Frog’ Robdal – an ‘art connoisseur’ who is the biological father of Rodney Trotter. We’re also going to be introduced to Mrs Trotter (played by Kellie Bright) who is, as you might imagine, one classy bird. And Boycie, Trigger and Denzil pop up as rowdy South London teenagers too. Sounds like a must-see for all die-hard Only Fools fans. Given that it’s being written by the show’s creator, John Sullivan, it’s bound to stay true to the original and create some comedy classics of its own.

I've seen plenty of negative remarks about this prequel splashed across the internet, and even comments saying that; for example the only fools & horses franchise should have come to an end in 1996 with 'Time on our hands', and that the last few episodes aired bertween then and 2003 were bad and shouldn't have been made, but I for one really enjoyed them! The Green Green Grass has also been knocked – whilst not as good as any Only Fools & Horses episode, they were still good. I will definately be waiting to watch Sex, Drugs, Rock 'n' Chips with anticipation. (Wouldn't mind one more Only Fools episode either – a Christmas Special – a few years on, showing us how they're all getting on nowadays – a similar jump in time from damien being a babe in arms, to being the 15 yr old in the last few episodes for example, we would like to see rodder's grown up kid etc
