Gossip Girl Turns Pop ‘Singer’

Ok, hands up who loves Gossip Girl! Well, it may interest you to know that Leighton Meester, that’s Blake Waldorf to you and me, is the latest actress to launch a pop career. Have a listen to her debut single ‘Somebody To Love’. After listening to it a couple of times, I’m left thinking: why did she bother?! It’s a distinctly average pop/dance tune. Yes it’s catchy, but hardly memorable. Plus, why launch a SINGING career when you are clearly not SINGING on the track? She does the whole lazy, seductive speaking thing in the first verse, then Robin Thicke comes in to provide some actual singing and then she randomly talks in French. The rest of the song is completely overtaken by synth. You can’t really make out where the human voice ends and where the robotics begin. Verdict: Stick to the acting Leighton!
