The Voice comes to the UK

BBC One is bringing US hit series The Voice to our screens. The Voice UK is taking auditions now and is set to dominate Saturday night prime-time very soon.

The talent contest is a singing show with a difference. There are four celebrity singing coaches, who pick the contestants they want to mentor from their auditions. The difference being, they cannot see the performers as they audition. With their back to the singer, the coach must judge the talent by their voice only – not their appearance. As the auditionee sings, the celebrities are invited to press a button if they want to mentor the act. If more than one coach presses their button, the contestant decides which celebrity will coach them.

The celebrity coaches in America were Christina Aguilera, country singer Blake Shelton, Cee Lo Green and the winning coach – Maroon 5′s Adam Levine. The contest quickly became a veritable ratings winner Stateside. 10million Americans tuned in to watch R&B crooner Javier Colon crowned the winner of the inaugural series. The bets are on to see who will be the coaches in the UK. In the meantime, if you or anyone you know fancies being mentored by a singing sensation, go to the BBC’s auditions website.
