Celeb BB: This Could be the One
After Channel 5 received much criticism for resurrecting an axed Big Brother from Channel 4, this may be the year the channel proves it has successfully revived the format. Last night’s Celebrity Big Brother launch show unveiled a surprising but quite magnificent mix of celebrities! There were the usual culprits: glamour models, bad boys (MC Harvey and Olympian Ashley) and a prince charming in the shape of Prince Lorenzo of Italy. But there were genuine surprises too, like camp comedy veteran Julian Clary?! And actual A-list celebs like Spandau Ballet’s Martin Kemp and Corrie’s Julie Goodyear! The mix was so overwhelming for Jersey Shore’s Mike that even he shied into a quiet corner!
The secret task is now a standard procedure for the first people in, but last night’s produced some comedy gold. Soap stars Julie Goodyear and EastEnders’ Cheryl Fergison were given secret earpieces and told to act on the ‘stage directions’ from Big Brother. What followed was Cheryl crying on Harvey’s shoulder about an alleged affair between her ex and Julie. Harvey even teared up himself! What convincing acting – I bet the EastEnders bosses are regretting killing off Heather now. Julie pulled Rhian aside and warned her of Mike’s womanising, likening the model to Raquel Watts from Corrie. Priceless. The actresses then began to argue about the fictitious affair and we were left with Julie pouring a glass of water over Cheryl! Hilarious! As the credits rolled you could see the men in the house slowly backing away in terror with uncomfortable grins on their faces. Apparently Big Brother has since revealed the secret task to the other housemates and the ladies have passed. It’s the least you would expect after that great acting! Admittedly, I was a sceptic before, but this motley crew have convinced me to give the series a go this year. Judging by the buzz on Twitter, many others are feeling the same way.
