EastEnders Sweeps British Soap Awards (Again)
The British Soap Awards were so predictable this year that I thought I was reading the winners list from last year. If you are waiting for Wednesday night to watch the ceremony on ITV1 in suspense then stop reading now.
Once again EastEnders was named Best British Soap. It doesn’t get any sexier than Scott Maslen, who won Sexiest Male for a second time. At last, Lorna Fitzgerald’s fabulous portrayal of Abi Branning got some recognition as she won Best Young Performance. Viewers are loving the Tanya and Max Branning storyline, as Jake Wood and Jo Joyner won Best On-Screen Partnership and Best Dramatic Performance. They couldn’t ignore Pat’s exit in soapland, so Pam St Clement was honoured with Lifetime Achievement. Series Writer Simon Ashdown also walked away with the Special Achievement Award.
Coronation Street bagged quite a few gongs too. Best Exit went to Katherine Kelly for Becky’s departure, whilst her farewell was named Best Single Episode. Natalie Gumede (Kirsty Soames) picked up Best Newcomer, whilst Best Actress went to Alison King (Carla Connor) and Best Comedy Performance to Stephanie Cole (Sylvia Goodwin). Predictably, Michelle Keegan was once again named Sexiest Actress. Emmerdale’s Danny Miller also won Best Actor again; whilst the soap earned Spectacular Scene of the Year for John and Moira’s car crash, and Best Storyline for Jackson’s Choice.
The British Soap Awards 2012 airs this Wednesday May 2nd on ITV1 from 8pm
