Elementary Trailer
Ever since US channel CBS announced its own version of a modern day Sherlock Holmes, British fans have been waiting to pour criticism over it. I wanted to remain impartial but, having seen the trailer, I can confirm it’s a far cry from the BBC’s award-winning series. It all seems a bit ‘Englishman in New York’. American macho cops versus British eccentricity. And Johnny Lee-Miller just doesn’t do oddball sociopath quite as expertly as Benedict Cumberbatch. Despite American producers insisting it wouldn’t be a rip-off of the BBC’s latest series, it does feel a little like an attempt to recreate the same feel. On the positive side, the decision to make Sherlock’s partner Dr John Watson a woman hasn’t come off as badly as I first anticipated. Lucy Liu plays…wait for it…Joan Watson! Ha! The Sherlock/Watson chemistry is a draw, but for entirely different reasons this time. The series comes to CBS this autumn. UPDATE!! Elementary is confirmed for Sky Living’s Autumn 2012 slate:
