I already had my doubts about the quality of bands on the next Big Reunion series and, now that I’ve seen the video for Tony Mortimer from East 17′s solo single, all hopes have been dashed.

East 17 were the latest 90s band pencilled in to feature in ITV2′s The Big Reunion follow-up series. They were the only band I was vaguely interested in seeing again, given the others aren’t as interesting and Brian Harvey always guarantees a certain amount of drama. However, my bubble has well and truly burst now that I’ve heard that fellow band member, and writer in the band, Tony Mortimer, is pursuing a solo career. This wouldn’t bother me so much if the song and video weren’t so awful.

You do remember East 17, right? Beanies, medallions and puffer jackets? Whilst I appreciate Tony is now 42 years old and probably can’t pull off a puffer jacket, the sight of him in the video for Shake It Down is beyond redemption. Turtle neck jumpers, cheesy looks to camera, average vocals, an even more average song – he looks like a dad singing Motown at karaoke. Do I then want to see him revive the urban magic of House of Love as part of The Big Reunion? No thanks, dad. Watch the video for Shake It Down below (out June 17th, for those that love a bit of dad-style Motown):

These hardcore fishermen use only a rod and reel to capture a beast that can swim at over 40 mph and weigh up to 900 kg. A single fish can deliver a $20,000 pay-day, so the competition is fierce. And this season, the pressure is compounded as a cocky, young team invades local waters with the goal of out-fishing the veteran local boats.

As previously reported, Sharon has allegedly been offered a contract worth more than any other TV judge ever – close to £2million. Nicole hasn’t confirmed that she has signed on the dotted line but Louis’ recent verbal diarrhea would suggest she either has or is in the process of doing so.

So how do we feel about it? I think the hype surrounding Sharon’s return means we’re expecting big things from her. It’ll take more than a glass of water over Louis to impress us now. It’ll be interesting to see what she delivers. The dynamic between the two women on the panel is always a subject of fascination. Will Nicole feel overshadowed? Will she be reduced to ‘the eye candy’? (I certainly hope not, because she proved to be a more than capable mentor last series.) Will they both get on?! Are we going to have a Dannii vs Sharon-style conflict again? (Probably not, considering Nicole won’t be banging her boss.) Other than that, we know what to expect from Gary and Louis now, I doubt they’ll be any surprises from them. So this series really will be all about the ladies…

The X Factor USA judges have also been confirmed – click here to see who made the panel.

Kelly Rowland will do a Nicole and hop from one side of the Atlantic to the other. Joining her and Simon is Demi Lovato – returning for her second series – and Hispanic singing sensation Paulina Rubio. After you’ve finished laughing at the thought of Simon surrounded by a United Colours of Benetton-style gang of songstresses, and before you berate his decision to hire an ‘unknown’ singer for the panel – Paulina is actually a bloody successful music artist in her own right in America and Latin America. She’s currently on her eleventh album and has enjoyed over 20million album sales to date. Here’s my favourite Paulina classic (see if you can spot any reasons why Simon may want to hire her to sit next to him every week. Hmm…):

Sometimes, you just gotta talk.

Twitter went into overdrive last night when Archie Panjabi roared onto our screens on a motorbike. Scully AND Kalinda sharing the small screen? BBC Two’s The Fall just got a whole load more interesting! The Emmy-winning actress from The Good Wife plays the small role of a pathologist in the drama; yet the sight of her, Gillian Anderson AND THEN Hollyoaks favourite Emmett Scanlan all on telly together really boosted the appeal of the show.

Back to the story, it seems like the child-minder sub-plot is being setting up to be the downfall of Paul. I would be disappointed if this the case. I find it hard to believe that such a meticulous, calculated killer would drop the ball so carelessly. Even DSI Gibson describes him as intelligent. Tripping up with his teenage child-minder just seems too sloppy. Meanwhile, what’s with the detective being shot outside his house whilst his son watched through the window? Again, I hope this sub-plot about the troubles in Northern Ireland leads to some kind of intelligent conclusion, that ties in nicely with the murder investigation; otherwise it all seems contrived and pointless.

I described the drama as ‘darky disturbing’ because Jamie Dornan’s portrayal of serial killer Paul Spector is convincing, to say the least. The Fall’s strength seems to lie in its attention to detail. We see Paul painting the nails of his victim, carefully drying her after a bath, before leaving her posed on her own bed. These lengthy scenes are chillingly dark. Even the detail in DSI’s behaviour is intriguing. Beyond her authority and sexual confidence, we see her icy exterior begin to thaw as she speaks to the murdered solicitor’s relatives. There’s a hint of layers behind the enigma, which makes her character so fascinating.

The Fall continues on BBC Two on Monday nights at 9pm. The first two episodes are now available on BBC iPlayer.

Monkeys, tweeting endless topless selfies, bashing photographers – anyone would think Justin has lost a little perspective. But can anyone blame him? He’s still only 19 years old and his reality involves being swamped by hoards of women ALL the time, causing traffic jams wherever he goes and selling out arena tours. No wonder the teenager seems a little detached from reality at times. But last weekend, the audience at the Billboard Music Awards showed no sympathy.

As Justin took to the stage to receive a Milestone Award (for becoming the first artist under 19 to gain five number ones in 12 months), the cheers swiftly became a mixture of cheers and boos. As the boos became more audible, Justin took several moments before starting his thank you speech. Dressed in all-black leather and wearing sunglasses, the singer went on to say: “I’m 19 years old. I think I’m doing a pretty good job…I really just want to say it should be about the music, about the craft. This is not a gimmick, I’m not a gimmick. I’m an artist and I should be taken seriously.” Watch the awkward clip below:

It was well and truly Coronation Street‘s year at this year’s British Soap Awards. After being overlooked at the BAFTAs, the soap finally won a hefty eight awards at Salford last night: Best Soap, Sexiest Female (Michelle Keegan for the fifth time!), Best Villain (Natalie Gumede, Kirsty), Best Actor (Alan Halsall, Tyrone), Best Exit (Nigel Havers, Lewis), Best Comedy (Patti Clare, Mary), Best Dramatic Performance (Natalie Gumede) and Best Storyline for the Kirsty/Tyrone abuse storyline. The Hollyoaks cast were thrilled simply to be there, but the whoops turned to shrieks of joy as they notched up an impressive five awards: Sexiest Male (Danny Mac, Dodger), Best Actress (Claire Cooper, Jacqui), Spectacular Scene of the Year (bus crash), Best On-Screen Partnership (Emmett J Scanlan and Kieron Richardson, Ste & Brendan) and Best Newcomer (Joseph Thompson, Paul).

Emmerdale bagged two gongs: Best Young Performer (Eden Taylor-Draper, Belle) and Best Episode for their 40th live special. In stark contrast to their BAFTA success, EastEnders only came away with a Lifetime Achievement Award, which was given to Adam Woodyatt (Ian). The laughs were audible as clips of Derek being revealed as Kat’s lover (cue the overly-dramatised lighting of a cigar!) were played during the announcement of various nominees. So it’s not just us that found that whole plot cringe-making to say the least. After years of living in Albert Square’s shadow, this year is all about Weatherfield.
