From Pop Idol to Bedlam

Sometimes I find myself wondering where our original Pop Idol has disappeared to. Often, it keeps me up at night. Thankfully, I need wonder no more. Will Young, winner of the inaugural Pop Idol competition back in 2002, has diverted from music while he flexes his acting muscles.

The more observant fans amongst you will recall he’s already starred in a Hollywood movie – Mrs Henderson Presents. Now, he stars in Sky Living’s first original drama commission, Bedlam. The horror series starts this Monday, and is set in a former pre-Victorian asylum. It follows a group of twenty-somethings, who live in the haunted building which has now been converted into a 21st century apartment block.

Will is the dashing geek Ryan McAllister and is joined by Theo James who plays Jed Harper; a troubled man with a history of madness, and Charlotte Salt who stars as Kate Bettany; an attractive and ambitious property owner. The apartment block is known as Bedlam Heights and is run by Kate and her father Warren (played by Hugo Speer).

The series promises to be dark, violent and engaging. So if you like your Pop Idols sugar-coated, look away now. Here’s the trailer, featuring Will covered in something nasty that doesn’t look at all like sugar:

Bedlam, on Sky Living from Monday February 7th, 10pm.
