According to Eurodata TV Worldwide, House was officially the most-watched television programme around the world in 2008. Unbelievably, more than 81.8 million viewers in over 66 countries watched it – representing a potential reach of 1.6 billion viewers. Who would’ve thought Stephen Fry’s comedy sidekick Hugh Laurie would go on to star in the biggest show on the planet?! Oh, but well done Five, you handed over the biggest TV show in the world to Sky1! D’oh!

Apparently the ratings blasted the previous year’s global winners CSI: Las Vegas and CSI: Miami. Other shows capturing a worldwide audience are Desperate Housewives, who came top in the comedy category with 65.1 million viewers, and The Bold and the Beautiful which topped the soaps category with 24.5 million. It’s a shame none of our British TV shows are making the cut.
