Houston Family Chronicles

Bobbi Kristina and Pat Houston with Whitney HoustonReality TV continues to be a deadly virus infecting television in the 21st century. Months after Whitney Houston’s death on February 11th, it has been announced that the legendary singer’s daughter, mother, brother and sister-in-law will become the stars of a new fly-on-the-wall series, The Houston Family Chronicles.

Whitney’s former manager and sister-in-law Pat, mother Cissy and brother Gary are now the legal carers for her only child – 19-year-old Bobbi Kristina. It is believed the show will follow the family as they grieve and heal after their loss. Just when you think it’s bad enough that the general public will be scrutinising the every move of a mourning teenager, news breaks that her father, Bobby Brown, has also signed up for his own reality programme. Is nothing too personal for television any more?

The 10-part series launches on US broadcaster Lifetime later this year. Bobbi Kristina and Bobby Brown also starred in Bravo’s reality series Being Bobby Brown, in 2005. Whitney Houston publicly admitted the show had a detrimental effect on her family life and refused to star in a second series. It’s sad that lessons have not been learnt.
