ITV Loses its Heartbeat
ITV has announced it is axing both Heartbeat and spin-off The Royal, to cut costs. The credit crunch claims its latest victim? Or maybe after 18 series, the police drama had just grown stale? Either way, it’s going to leave a gaping hole in ITV’s schedule.
The drama was a staple show in ITV’s programming but falling ratings, combined with the fact that reality TV shows such as Dancing on Ice are pulling in more viewers, means that it’s time to call it a day at Ashfordly’s favourite police station. Thankfully, fans will still be able to catch completed episodes until well into next year. This trend is a bit worrying though, considering the other long-running police show on ITV is The Bill and even that has scaled down production recently to save money. Let’s hope Sun Hill can stay open for business a little longer!
how shortsighted itv is. the bbc wins for me from now on. this was entertainment for all the family, sweet, innocent, no swearing and the music brought back memories for thousands. itv has been rubbish for years now but is going further down a slippery slope to cheap productions, i will gladly pay my tv licence fee knowing there is better quality bbc programmes to watch (if they have any sense they will see what an opportunity this is and beat itv to a pulp) shame on you removing such a loved programme.- reality tv will soon have had its day soon – i hope.Try and save money by cutting extortionate salaries instead of favourites like hearbeat and the royal.
I LOVE HEARTBEAT SO MUCH I ALWAYS USE TO WATCH IT WEN IT WAS ON.. I WANT IT BK ON OUR TELE'S I NOW IT IS ON AND I DO WATCH BECAUSE WAKE UP ABOUT 6 – 7 AND WATCH THE ONE AT 1:00 AND THE OTHER AT 4:00 I NEVA MISS THEM I JUST WITCH THEY WILL STILL SHOW THE OLD ONES AND BRING A NEW ONE OUT.. I HAVE DREAMS ALL THE TYM ABOUT ME INIT.. I ALWAYS WANTED TO GO TO YORKSHIRE TO SEE THE POLICE STATION AND THE CARS AND OTHER THINGZZ. I WANT IT BK ON IF IT WAS ME WHO DID HEARTBEAT I WULD KEEP IT ON NO MATTER WAT.. AND I WOULD PLAY INIT MYSELF.. BCAUSE I WOULD LOVE TO BE IN HEARTBEAT.. HEARTBEAT IS THE BEST SOAP OUT OF THE OTHER SOAPS..X I WANT IT BK =[
