I am yet to meet anyone that likes ITV1′s Jeremy Kyle Show. It seems to be a chat show that chavs love to go on to discuss their teenage pregnancies, paternity issues and who’s cheating on whom. Every story is a clone of the previous show. And at the centre of it all is its host. Jeremy Kyle, a former gambling addict who cheated on and stole from his first wife before leaving her, patronises his guests with his snide comments and self-righteous tone, to the point where he is possibly more annoying than his guests. Jerry Springer he is not. Yet, unbelievably, the show is set to go to America!
In a UK first, a British chat show will be produced locally in the US, rather than remade, and distributed to over 70% of the country’s broadcasters. Jeremy Kyle is an unknown face in the States, but somehow he has managed to infiltrate American television. Much like a deadly virus. Whether he is a hit with US viewers or not remains to be seen. The country has already had its fair share of chat shows like Jerry Springer, Montell Jordan, Sally Jesse Raphael and Ricki Lake. But, judging by the success of other British men on American TV, the Yanks seems to like an arrogant, smarmy git Brit. They’re welcome to him.
