Knight Rider Gets His KITT Out

The 80s hit series that got everyone talking to their wrist is back! The Sci Fi channel airs the new series of Knight Rider from Tuesday, May 12th. The world’s first talking car (the coolest in the universe!), K.I.T.T., returns in the form of a sexy Ford Shelby GT500KR Mustang, voiced by Val Kilmer. The Hoff, David Hasselhoff, even makes a guest appearance in the two-hour pilot. This time the story centres on Mike Tracer (played by relatively unknown Justin Bruening), who is the estranged son of Michael Knight. The series takes off 25 years after the last episode. I’m excited by the return of a childhood favourite from back in the day when The Hoff was a heart-throb and known for his acting rather than his eccentricity or talent-judging abilities! However, I’ll have to tune into a few episodes before deciding whether a resurrection was justified. Apparently, ratings in the US haven’t been great, so this is one that’ll have to prove itself over time.

Sci Fi has got a double scoop, with the acquisition of Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse as well. That’s due to start on May 19th and as I’ve previously mentioned, I expect it’ll be one worth watching. Anyway, in the lead up to the return of a TV classic, I’ll leave you with something else the programme was originally famous for: its theme tune. The new intro is the same but a bit funked up with heavy guitars – click play and prepare for the bassline to stay in your head all day! You’ve been warned!
