The Marriage Ref comes to ITV

I deemed it ‘The Jeremy Kyle Show with added celebrity‘ back in March last year, and now it’s coming to ITV1. Get ready folks – Jerry Seinfeld’s reality TV invention, The Marriage Ref, has landed on our shores.

The show launched in America to universal criticism, but has somehow grown in popularity over the last year. Ordinary members of the public bring their odd and outrageous marriage concerns to a celebrity panel, who offer words of advice. It’s not necessarily serious advice, mind you. I mean, how serious can you be when the problem we’re talking about is: ‘My husband loves our cat more than me’?

The show will be hosted by Mr ITV himself, Dermot O’Leary, and the celebrity panel will comprise James Corden, Jonathan Ross and Geri Halliwell. Comedians Alan Carr, Jimmy Carr, Sarah Millican and Micky Flanagan will also be on hand to offer up a sarcastic dressing-down or two. I’m not sure what use a Spice Girl is to the proceedings. They were clearly looking for a woman with a free diary to make up the panel. They should’ve asked Cheryl Cole. And she’d be pretty useful in a marriage counselling situation, wouldn’t she?

Expect the feuding couples to hit our screens some time in July.
