Another year, another Facebook campaign to keep the X Factor winner off number one for Christmas. And this year the singles chart is smelling a little like teen spirit…
Facebook campaigners have set up a page called Nirvana For Christmas No.1, and it has already notched up nearly 36,000 Likes. Bookies have slashed the odds of Nirvana’s classic 1991 hit, Smells Like Teen Spirit, becoming Christmas Number One to 6/1. However, the X Factor winner is still favourite, with Misha B and Janet Devlin as firm front-runners. Last year, we saw Trashmen’s Surfin’ Bird put up a good fight against Matt Cardle’s debut single. The year before that, Rage Against the Machine famously robbed poor little Joe McElderry of the festive number one spot. It’s anyone’s game this year.
