Sky’s The Limit for New TV
Just moments after Big Brother is axed, Davina McCall has already lined up another job! She will be fronting Sky1’s new reality series Just Dance. The show aims to find the UK’s best dancer or dancing troupe, and is auditioning around the country from September. So if you’ve got a spring in your step, I’d get down to one of the ‘Dancing in the Street’ auditions quick-smart. Judging by the support Diversity got after Britain’s Got Talent, we’ve well and truly got the dancing bug, so this new show is bound to be a ratings pleaser.
It seems that’s just the start for Sky1’s autumn schedule. Secondly, Angela Griffin (Waterloo Road, Holby City, Cutting It) has landed her own daytime chat show on the channel too! Bit random, but producers obviously think she has the personality to front a daily show. However, they’re still playing it safe by having three celebrity guest presenters joining her on the couch too. It’s a shame most of us will be at work when Angela and Friends airs, but it sounds like a nice alternative to ITV1’s Loose Women! And finally, in the lead up to the Jolly Season, the channel will be airing a series of silent films as part of its 12 Days of Christmas. Each original piece will be written and produced by some of the country’s finest talent including Neil Gaiman, Richard Eyre and Guy Hibbert. Bill Nighy is the first big name star to sign up for the short films.
As if that wasn’t enough! Channel 4 has also whetted our appetite with a cryptic teaser of the upcoming Derren Brown special called ‘The Events’. The details are mysteriously sketchy and allude to the fact that, once again, the master magician will be playing mind games and fooling members of the public into playing a part in some kind of big stunt involving ‘misdirection’ – whatever that is. Sounds scary!
