Steps to reform on Sky Living
Everyone seems to be excited by the impending Steps reunion. Sky Living are filming a four-part documentary that sees the five get back together in the run up to the release of their ‘Ultimate Collection’. They will also be going back into the recording studios. So does this mean new material from the 90s pop band? And does their brand of bubble-gum pop still have a place in the music industry?
The documentary will tell us what really led to the disbanding of the group in 2001 and what they all did afterwards. We know Ian ‘H’ Watkins made an appearance on Celebrity Big Brother. He also shocked the world by coming out as gay (not as shocking as Will Young’s coming out of course). Claire Richards kept popping up on the odd weight-loss show and Popstar to Operastar. Faye Tozer graced the stages of the West End. And of course Lisa Scott-Lee tried to go solo, got some success in Norway or something and then married that new bloke in Hear’Say. She then subjected us to the rest of her family when her brothers launched a band called 3SL. Seriously, that’s enough already. Where did Lee Latchford Evans and his six-pack go? We’ll soon find out I guess!
Steps have always made the kind of pop music that you’re ashamed to like but can’t help listening to, so if they stick to that formula they should come bounding back into the charts very soon – that stuff is timeless! I can’t wait to see Claire crinkling her nose again, H’s childlike over-excitement and the cheesy dance routines. Bring it on, I say.
