The Kumars Return on Sky1

The Kumars return on Sky1The Kumars have moved out of No.42 and into their new home at Sky1. The Emmy-winning comedy classic – now just ‘The Kumars’ – returns after an absence of six years. It was previously called The Kumars and No.42 and ran on BBC Two for seven series from 2001 until 2006. Creator Sanjeev Bhaskar has written and will star in an all-new series due to begin this autumn. This time, the family return having had to downsize due to the recession. They now live in a flat behind a gift shop in Hounslow. Sanjeev Kumar is once again joined by his chatterbox dad Ashwin Kumar (Vincent Ebrahim) and mum Madhuri Kumar (Indira Joshi) -  who is trying to set her son up with a celebrity. Last but never least, Sanjeev’s potty-mouthed gran Ummi (Meera Syal) will also return to occupy a seat on the sofa.

Divorced from his wife of two years, Sanjeev now shares custody of his eight-year-old daughter, who is a bit of a handful. Cousin Moona, who knows how to hack into any satellite channel in the world, also joins the family for their new-look chat show, based in their living room. We look forward to more inappropriate comments from Ummi, embarrassed celebrity guests and boring stories from Ashwin!
