Your New Year’s Day Planner!
So 2012 has begun! Chances are you’ve seen it in with plenty of alcohol and merriment. Even if you haven’t, today is traditionally about rest and recuperation. So, apart from recommending hangover cures (plenty of water! Fry ups!), what can TVGuide.co.uk do to help you get through today? Well, we can certainly tell you what to look out for on the box. If you’re a film fan it looks like your year is about to get off to a good start.
11.15am: New Year’s Day Concert from Vienna 2012 (BBC Two)
The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra can ease you early birds gently into the New Year with their annual performance.
12.40pm: Dean Spanley (BBC Two)
The movie premieres begin with this comedy drama starring Sam Neill and Peter O’Toole. For something more family-friendly, you’ve got Wallace & Gromit followed by The Chronicles of Narnia over on BBC One. Incidentally, if you’re not in the mood for being a couch potato then maybe Sky1’s back-to-back programmes featuring Got To Dance stars Chris & Wes and Diversity will get you moving!
5.30pm: Bolt (BBC One)
Another movie premiere for all the family with this animated adventure. If you’ve outgrown cute puppies (when does one ever outgrow cute puppies?) then perhaps now is the time to head down to your local for a pint.
7pm: EastEnders vs Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince vs Treasure Island (BBC One/ITV1/Sky1)
It’s like Sophie’s Choice!! Pat is bidding her farewell from the soap over on the BBC but Harry’s sixth adventure premieres on ITV at the same time. AND Sky1’s new reinvention of the Robert Louis Stevenson classic also airs in the same slot! Video recorders at the ready me thinks. If none of them take your fancy then tune into the delightful WALL.E over on BBC Three.
8.10pm: Sherlock (BBC One)
The modern-day super-sleuth is back with A Scandal in Belgravia. The latest episode introduces Irene Adler to the mix. A lady to come between the Holmes and Watson bromance – should be interesting!
9.40pm: Absolutely Fabulous (BBC One)
Edina and the gang are back for the second of the three new episodes. If classic comedy isn’t floating your boat then try Channel 4’s new phone-hacking drama, Hacks, at 10pm. For those of you that aren’t crying for an early night afterwards, Adele’s latest concert at the Royal Albert Hall screens on BBC One at 10.35pm.
And that’s the first day of 2012 complete! We hope to bring you all the best – and worst – of television throughout the year so keep your eyes peeled on TVGuide.co.uk in 2012. Happy New Year!!
